Padel Tennis and Pickleball are coming to Crescent Tennis Club

We are delighted to confirm that our planning application for a padel court has been approved.

The Club is now actively working with our contractors to now build the court and other work on courts 1 and 2

IMG 0533.

We are antispating that work will beging around Spetember and be competed in late October.

In the meantime, the Club is looking and working on all of the logistics around running a padel court and pickleball and we'll be providing you all with regular details on the progess.

We are sure you’ll agree that having these new facilities will hopefully help us to move forward elsewhere on our facilities. This, as we agreed, will be focusing on alternative court surfaces across other courts, improving lights and other areas across the Club.  On these, however, we are very much dependent on the success of Padel at the Club and of course your continuing support.

Social Play at Crescent

Our popular social playing sessions are open to all members.

The playing format is doubles (mixed where possible) and the sessions take place on Tuesday, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays - 9.00am until 12.00 noon - no need to book!

On Saturdays the format is slightly different - it is open to all members, juniors (13+ with parental/guardian consent) and players of all abilities from 1.00pm until 4.00pm.  We would encourage new members, those who have been in coaching or potential new members to come along to this session - unlike other social play, as well as doubles, singles is permitted (providing we have court availability) or just ‘hit’ with others - again no booking is necessary.

Other open member sessions include Thursdays 7.00pm - 9.30pm 'mixed doubles' and Fridays 6.00pm -9.30pm (Summer months only end of April-mid October).

Sun Awareness

Sun Awareness

As we head towards the summer months, fingers crossed, we are all hoping for long spells of sun and more opportunities to play tennis

Playing tennis can mean spending hours in the sun. Make sure to protect your skin with these helpful tips:

 What are UV rays?

Ultraviolet radiation is the portion of the sun’s rays responsible for skin damage, which may lead to skin cancer. UV rays are worse in the spring and summer and can be increased by reflection for pavements and tennis courts. The UV index lets you know how strong UV rays are on a given day.

What is sun protection?

To protect yourself from UV rays, use sunblock, wear a wide-brimmed hat or shirts and sunglasses that block 99 percent of UV rays.

When do I need sun protection?

You should always wear some form of sun protection. You can get sunburned on overcast days and in cold weather.

What type of sunblock is best?

Broad spectrum lotion that protects against both UVA and UVB rays. Use a minimum of 30 SPF and make sure sunscreen is fresh; it usually expires after two years.

When do I apply sunblock?

A minimum of 30 minutes prior to going out in the sun, so that it is most effective. And make sure to reapply every two hours or more often as needed.

What else can I do to play safely?

Make sure you are properly hydrated

The number one rule is to keep hydrated. I’m extreme heat you should be hydrating before and after a match.

 Take breaks between games

Always take the maximum break between games and make sure to rehydrate and reapply sun protection.

Stop if temperatures are too high

Don’t be too proud to stop a match if the heat is too much.
